As I was coming to school, sir

The Poetry Pages

Poem by Miriam Pass (Aged 10)

As I was coming to school, sir
to learn my ABC
I was picked up and put in a sack, sir
by a Russian that took me to sea
So I had to swim all the way back, sir
and I still had my legs in the sack, sir
and the waves were forty foot high, sir
and that’s the reason why, sir
I would not dare tell a lie, sir
I’m late for school today.
Is it all right if I go out to play?
